Guide · view IP cameras on a PC

How to view an IP camera on your PC — no NVR needed.

Most IP cameras can stream straight to a Windows PC. Here is the quickest way to get the picture on screen, and how to record it once it is there.

Download VISEC free One camera license free for life · Windows 10 & 11 · no card, no email.
  1. Put the PC and camera on the same network

Plug the camera into your router or switch, or join it to your Wi-Fi with the maker's app. A camera plugged into the back of an NVR sits on the recorder's private network, so connect it to the router instead.

  2. Make sure ONVIF is on

ONVIF is the open standard software uses to find and talk to cameras. Many cameras ship with it switched off or needing a separate ONVIF user. We have brand-by-brand steps for Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Tapo and more.

  3. Install camera software on the PC

Download VISEC for Windows 10 or 11. It is free for life on one camera license.

  4. Press scan

VISEC searches the network, lists the cameras it finds, and you pick one. Enter the camera's user name and password and it is live.

  5. Choose what to record

Draw the area you care about and VISEC records only when something moves there, and emails you a snapshot.

Questions

Quick answers.

Can I watch an IP camera on a PC without the maker's app?

Yes, if the camera supports ONVIF — most do. ONVIF lets any compatible software, including VISEC, find and stream the camera.

Why can't my PC find the camera?

Usually ONVIF is off, the ONVIF user is missing, or the camera is on a different network. See ONVIF camera not found.

Can I watch my cameras away from home?

Yes. VISEC offers remote viewing from a web browser or the client application.
