Camera setup · Hikvision

Connect a Hikvision camera to VISEC.

Hikvision cameras work with VISEC over ONVIF, the open camera standard. On current firmware ONVIF is switched off until you turn it on, and it needs its own user account — that is the step almost everyone misses.

First, try the easy way

Press scan.

VISEC searches your network for ONVIF cameras and lists what it finds. If your Hikvision camera already has ONVIF switched on, it appears here and you are watching live in a few seconds — nothing below is needed.

Turning ONVIF on

If the camera does not appear.

Menu names move around between firmware versions, so treat these as the place to look rather than an exact path.

  1. Open the camera in a browser

Type the camera's IP address into your browser and sign in with its admin account. If you do not know the address, VISEC's scan will show it.

  2. Find the ONVIF setting

Go to Configuration › Network › Advanced Settings › Integration Protocol and tick Enable ONVIF. On some firmware this reads Open Network Video Interface.

  3. Add an ONVIF user

On that same page, click Add and create a user. This is separate from the camera's admin login — ONVIF will not authenticate with the admin account alone. Give it a user name and password you will remember; VISEC asks for these.

  4. Set the authentication method

Where offered, set authentication to Digest & ws-username token. Save, then scan again in VISEC.

Firmware mattersCameras on firmware before V5.5.0 usually have ONVIF enabled already. V5.5.0 and later ship with it off.
PortsLeave HTTP on 80 and RTSP on 554 unless you have a reason to change them.
Still not found?Check the camera and the PC are on the same subnet, and that the ONVIF user you created is enabled.
