Camera setup · TP-Link Tapo

Connect a TP-Link Tapo camera to VISEC.

Most TP-Link Tapo cameras can stream to VISEC over ONVIF once you create a camera account in the Tapo app. That account is the whole trick, and it is not the same as your TP-Link login.

First, try the easy way

Press scan.

VISEC searches your network for ONVIF cameras and lists what it finds. If your TP-Link Tapo camera already has ONVIF switched on, it appears here and you are watching live in a few seconds — nothing below is needed.

Creating the camera account

If the camera does not appear.

Menu names move around between firmware versions, so treat these as the place to look rather than an exact path.

  1. Open the camera in the Tapo app

On your phone, open the Tapo app and tap the camera, then the gear icon.

  2. Create a camera account

Go to Advanced Settings › Camera Account and create a user name and password. Use something different from your TP-Link ID — this account exists only for software like VISEC.

  3. Note the ONVIF port

Tapo cameras answer ONVIF on port 2020, not 80. If VISEC asks for a port, enter 2020.

  4. Scan from VISEC

Press scan, pick the camera and sign in with the camera account you just created.

PortsONVIF on 2020, RTSP on 554.
Which modelsMost mains-powered Tapo cameras support it. Battery Tapo cameras generally do not stream continuously, so they are not a good fit for recording.
VIGI camerasTP-Link's business VIGI range supports ONVIF directly from its own web interface.
