What free CCTV software should do

  • Find your camerasSearch the network for ONVIF IP cameras instead of making you type stream addresses.
  • Record only when it mattersMotion detection with zones you draw, so you are not storing hours of an empty driveway.
  • Tell you straight awayAn email with a snapshot when something moves.
  • Keep footage localRecordings on your own drive, not on somebody's cloud.
  • No clockA 30-day trial is not free software. Look for a free tier that never expires.

How VISEC's free license works

The free license is the complete program on one camera: live view, motion recording, playback, email alerts, remote viewing, number plate recognition, QR reading and access control. It is not a trial and needs no card and no email. If you later add cameras, paid licenses are a one-time purchase with no subscription — see licenses.

What your PC needs

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with 8 GB of memory. The program is about 100 MB to download and 200 MB installed. For the AI features, including plate recognition, a graphics card with 4 GB, preferably Nvidia; without one VISEC uses the processor. Plan space for recordings — for 4 to 5 cameras, a 500 GB drive typically holds 3 to 4 months.

Questions

Quick answers.

Is there really free CCTV software with no time limit?

Yes. VISEC is free for life on one camera license — the full program, not a cut-down edition or a trial.

Does free CCTV software work with Hikvision, Dahua and Reolink?

VISEC works with 99% of ONVIF compliant IP cameras, including Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Amcrest, Axis, Uniview and TP-Link Tapo. Some cameras need ONVIF switched on first — see the camera setup guides.

Do I need an NVR?

No. The PC records the cameras itself. An NVR is a separate box doing the same job.

Is my footage uploaded anywhere?

No. VISEC writes recordings to your own drive. There is no cloud account.
