Set an incremental record plus full video on motion and you get the best of both: you can always see what the camera was looking at at any minute of the day, and the moments that matter are there at full quality. It is a fraction of the disk of continuous recording and it has no blind spots in the timeline.
Pre-event footage is the detail people underrate. The useful part of an incident is usually the approach, not the act.
As a guide, four or five cameras recording on motion fill about 500 GB in three to four months. Resolution, frame rate and how busy the scene is all move that — storage planning. Recordings can be spread across several drives automatically.

How much footage before the event is kept?
Configurable in the camera's recording properties. Keep it short enough that you are not storing a minute of run-up for every event.
Where is it recorded?
To your own drives. Nothing is uploaded and there is no subscription.
Does a corrupt recording lose everything?
No. Fix Files scans for corrupt recordings and attempts a repair, which is worth running after a power cut.
