Thirty stores, and the doors nobody was watching.
A major food retailer set out to extend surveillance across around thirty stores — and the areas it added first were the ones stock actually moves through.
The problem.
Existing store surveillance covered the shop floor. What it did not cover well were staff entrances and goods receiving — the points where stock leaves a building without going through a till. Around thirty Western Cape stores were identified for the upgrade.
The deployment.
An off-site monitoring specialist extended each store's system into those areas. Network cameras were chosen on two grounds: how little bandwidth they used, and how they behaved over the existing wireless network. Several IP cameras were tested before the decision.
The result.
Clearer recorded footage across the monitoring centres regardless of lighting, so operators could identify and act on incidents faster — and coverage of the areas where loss actually happens.
