Keep the 24 cameras. Add 12 more. Drill nothing.
A fifty-storey office building wanted more coverage and a modern system, but had already spent heavily on the analog cameras it had — and would not authorise trenching, major drilling or the cost that goes with them.
The problem.
Three guards covered fifty storeys, and one of them was effectively chained to the monitors because the analog system needed constant attention and its tapes needed changing. Finding old footage was slow and expensive. Management wanted twelve more cameras, wanted to keep the investment already made, and would not allow the building to be torn up.
The deployment.
The existing twenty-four cameras were kept and brought into the new system rather than discarded, and twelve wireless IP cameras were added with no drilling or cabling at all. Guards were given the system on tablets so they could monitor while moving through the building instead of sitting in front of it.
The result.
Thirty-six cameras instead of twenty-four, no construction, the earlier investment preserved, and a guard released from the monitor to actually patrol a fifty-storey building.
