The point of a camera is not footage, it is knowing. An email with a snapshot answers the question without opening anything, and it is what most people actually wanted when they bought a camera.
- Add your outgoing mail account firstControl Panel › Accounts. VISEC uses standard outgoing mail settings. Do this before anything else or an alert has nothing to send with.
- Add an event on motionIn the camera's motion settings press Add and choose the email action.
- Draw the zone tightlyAn alert you trust is one that only fires on things you care about.
Alerts go through your own mail account. There is no notification service in the middle, no subscription, and no third party holding your snapshots. If your mail works, your alerts work.
An alert system you have learned to ignore is worse than none. The usual answer is to record generously and alert narrowly: keep motion recording on a broad setting so the archive is complete, and put the tight rule on the alert so the email means something. More on that.
